Parcel Tax Review Panel
When a new parcel tax is implemented, the Village of Granisle will prepare a parcel tax assessment roll to be authenticated by a Parcel Tax Roll Review Panel, as required by Section 204 of the Community Charter.
To comply with the Community Charter requirements for public notice, the Village of Granisle issues parcel tax assessment notices to owners of properties within the service area where the new parcel tax will be implemented. Notices are also placed on the Village website, in the
local newspaper(s) and in other rural publications no fewer than 14 days prior to the panel meeting date. The parcel tax roll can be viewed above or at the Village office at #80 Hagan Street, Granisle BC.
The Village of Granisle Council sets the date for the parcel tax roll review panel to meet, which must be before the end of February each year. Directors of the Village of Granisle Council are appointed to sit on the panel, which considers and authenticates the Village of Granisle parcel tax roll.
A parcel tax may only be levied on properties that are currently receiving (or have a reasonable opportunity to receive) a specific service.
For Example, if a water line affronts a property and the property is not connected to that line, that property may still be liable to pay a water parcel tax because it has the opportuntiy to connect.
REQUESTING A CORRECTION TO THE PARCEL TAX ROLL
Property owners are able to request an amendment to the parcel tax roll only with respect to their own property and only for the following reasons:
1. error or omission of the name or address on the roll
2.error or omission respecting the inclusion of parcel
3.error or omission respecting the taxable area or taxable frontage of a parcel
4. an exemption had been improperly allowed or disallowed.
In order for a request to be considered by the panel, it must be made in writing and received at the Village of Granisle office at least 48 hours prior to the sitting of the parcel tax roll review panel.
